Swim Meets 101

You will receive an email on the day of each meet with specific information for that night's meet. Here is some general information for planning purposes.

RSVPs

Swimmer RSVPs for meets close 5pm the day before the meet.

If you have an emergency and you will not be able to attend a meet for which you RSVP'd yes, please let the team parent or coaches know as soon as possible! Team lineups are complicated work. We do not typically allow late entries to meets for this reason.

DURING THE MEETS:

  • Swim meets should be fun! Please don't take summer swim league too seriously. We are just here to learn & enjoy ourselves.
  • Coaches will select the swimmers's events the day before the meet. If you want to communicate something about your swimmer's arrival/departure time please do so on the RSVP in the provided space.
  • Leave the coaching to the coaches! Your role is to provide love and support regardless of outcome. Encourage your child’s efforts and point out the positive. Let the coach be the one to critique your swimmer’s performance and technique.
  • All swimmers 7&Up will be in relays. Please do not leave the meet until all your swimmer's events are over!
  • The Announcer/Starter: Will announce each event when the clerk of course is ready to begin each event and heat. There will also be an event board on deck that will show the current event number.
  • Disqualifications (DQs): DQs are a normal part of the learning process in swimming competitions. Even the most seasoned swimmers get DQ’d from time to time. A DQ signifies that there is something the swimmer needs to fix in the technique of their start, stroke, turn or finish. DQs should always be handled positively and with lots of empathy and support.
  • Be a Good Swim Parent: Be Enthusiastic and Supportive! Show good sportsmanship at all times toward coaches, officials, opponents and teammates.
  • Have Fun!
